Juliet Njoki from Jommo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is the winner of the Ladies category in the Inter-Universities and Colleges Chess Championships
Njoki dethroned Madelta Glenda from University of Nairobi,who failed to defend her title as the tournament came to an end on Sunday at Kenyatta University.
To claim the ladies category, Njoki delivered a dominant victory against Winfred Kathure from Maseno University finishing on top with seven points out of a possible eight.
Former national under-18 champion Vivian Muthoni finished runners-up with 6.5 points.
Muthoni from Nairobi National Polytechnic lost her last game to Grace Mercy from Kenyatta University.
Mercy exhibited a fierce attacking game and forced her opponents to resign after just 28 moves.
Muthoni had displayed a steller run and was the leader after six rounds having collected 5.5 points.
Elsie Muturi and eventual winner, joki were second with five points.
In the men's category defending champion Rocky Muchiri from Maseno University was on course to defend his title.

The defending champion demonstrated his endgame mastery, forcing Korir into resignation.
Muchiri once again showed genius moves in the sixth round as he annihilated Terence Muhambe from Masinde Muliro.
Muchiri dominated the tactical exchanges, forcing his opponent into a lost position and eventual resignation.
The win saw Muchiri stands on a perfect score heading into the seventh round.
In a major upset, Muhambe from Masinde Muliro University stunned University of Nairobi's captain and top seed, Timothy Mwabu.
Another major result saw Collins Mburu from University of Nairobi hand Suleiman Omondi his first defeat of the tournament.
